Netherlands police detain couple who fled quarantine hotel due to coronavirus

Schiphol Airport Police “Has arrested a couple tonight who fled a quarantine hotel”, Police spokesman Stan Verberkt told AFP.

Health authority spokeswoman Stefanie van Waardenburg said the couple was back in isolation but not in the same hotel.

Dutch Health Minister Hugo de Jonge said hours earlier that his country’s authorities would ensure that people comply with quarantine rules.

Most of the passengers who tested positive for COVID are at the hotel, but a few were able to quarantine at home. Passengers who tested negative will also need to quarantine at home.

Police and security guards are guarding the hotel, said a spokeswoman for the local mayor’s office.
