France registers 47,000 coronavirus infections in one day, the highest number since April

France recorded 47,000 new daily cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the highest figure since April, Health Minister Olivier Véran announced this Tuesday before the National Assembly.

“The situation is getting worse”, he said in response to a parliamentary question, before noting that the virus increases its presence “throughout the national territory” and cases rise at a rate of 60% weekly.

For this reason, the minister urged the population to continue with the vaccination and inoculation process of the third booster dose, which is open to all adults in the country. “We must intensify the campaign,” he stressed.

France yesterday had 9,860 hospitalized covid-19 patients, of them 1,749 in intensive care. But “without the vaccine, the hospitals would be overwhelmed,” acknowledged the French Minister of Health.

In the absence of counting the figures that Véran advanced, the country has registered 7.62 million confirmed cases of covid and 119,016 deaths.

In total, according to figures from the Directorate-General for Health this Monday, 51.9 million people have received at least one dose in France, an amount equivalent to 77% of the total population, and 50.8 million already have the pattern complete vaccination, 75.4%. In addition, a booster dose has been administered to 7.3 million.
