Colonel Aispuro, who appeared before the federal court of the court of the District of Columbia, in the city of Washington, and accused of conspiring from 2011 to January 2017 in drug trafficking “knowingly and intentionally”, had come to a plea agreement with the United States Attorney’s Office for the three charges against him: conspiracy to traffic cocaine, methamphetamines, heroin and marijuana; money laundering, and participation in property transactions belonging to a drug trafficker.

With the agreement, signed in June, it avoided the holding of a trial in the case and opened the door to sentences less than those established by the official guidelines: while the normal would have been a sentence of between 135 to 168 months in prison, with reductions, mitigating measures and their “minimal role” in criminal acts lowered the range of punishment to between 57 and 71 months in prison.

According to a BBC publication, Coronel was born in Santa Clara, California, but grew up in the La Angostura ranchería, in the northern region of Mexico known as the “Golden Triangle” of drug trafficking.

Coronel is the niece of Ignacio “Nacho” Coronel, who in life was compadre of “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Emma studied journalism at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and it was in 2011 when she gave birth to the twins she had with Guzmán Loera, María Joaquina and Emaly Guadalupe.
