Former Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza will be a candidate for elections in the state of Hugo Chávez

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced this Sunday that former Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza will be the candidate for the Interior of the state of Barinas – the birthplace of Hugo Chávez – in the elections that will be held on January 9 after the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) ordered its repetition.

“We have decided to launch for the Governor of Barinas a proven, honest, capable, brave man, comrade Jorge Arreaza,” Maduro said at an act of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in Barinas in which he participated virtually.

The president pointed out that there is a “New golden opportunity” for Chavismo to win the governorship of that region.

“We are going to a new battle, we saw the legal decisions of the constitutional powers of the country, establishing that this paramilitary, a narco-paraco from the gang of (Álvaro) Uribe and (Iván) Duque, this (Freddy) Superlano and his entire gang of narco-paracos , was disqualified and giving the people of Barinas a golden opportunity to go to a new election of governors”He added.

On November 29, the Supreme Court ordered the repetition of the elections in Barinas after receiving an action for constitutional protection filed by Adolfo Superlano, considered a dissident of the opposition, alleging a violation of constitutional rights, among other things, because Freddy Superlano, showed up despite being disabled.

In a statement, published by the Supreme Court, the same one that ordered the elections to be repeated, it was also indicated that “the projections recorded by the National Electoral Council (CNE) give a percentage of votes in favor of the candidate Freddy Superlano, of 37.60 % with respect to the 37.21% of votes obtained by the candidate (official) Argenis Chávez ”.

Faced with this situation and failing to reach a consensus, the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court declared, “by mere right, the resolution of the constitutional amparo action filed with a request for precautionary measure” and resolved to disqualify the exercise of any public office from opponent Freddy Superlano.

President Maduro added that on Thursday there was a meeting of the PSUV where Argenis Chávez presented his resignation from the Interior and his candidacy.

“I thanked him for taking a step to the side and facilitating the appointment of a new candidate to go to the electoral battle, to the rescue of the victory of the Government of Barinas”, Held.

Likewise, the vice president of the Psuv, Diosdado Cabello, added in the political act that the national campaign command will be installed in Barinas for the January 9 elections.

“Each municipality has a work team (…) We are taking this very seriously, we are morally obliged to win the state of Barinas,” he said.

Jorge Arreaza headed the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry from 2017 until August 19, when he was appointed by Maduro as Minister of Industries and National Production.
