France: 1 dead and 2 missing after explosion and collapse of a building on the Côte d’Azur


One person died and two remain missing after the sinking on the night of Monday to Tuesday by an explosion of a residential building in Sanary sur Mer, on the French Riviera of France.

The Prefecture (government delegation) of the department of Var specified, in a statement, that two people extracted from the rubble of the three-story building, located in the center of this small coastal city, had to be treated by the emergency medical services .

Another three were unharmed, according to the Prefecture, which also indicated that nine people were evacuated from neighboring buildings.

According to local media, the dead man is a man, the father of a rescued baby with his mother, who had serious injuries.

They are looking for a man, a fisherman and his mother, who is very old.

A total of 97 people, including firefighters and health services, supported by eleven policemen, were involved in the operation after the collapse of the building for reasons that will have to be determined by the investigation.

However, the first members of the rescue teams who went to the scene reported having smelled a strong smell of gas, the government delegation said.
