Jury recommends the death penalty for Markeith Loyd for the murder of a police officer who tried to arrest him in the US.

A popular jury in USA unanimously recommended this Wednesday the death penalty to Markeith Loyd for the shooting death of a female police officer as she tried to arrest him in 2017 in the city of Orlando, central Florida.

After five hours of deliberation over two days, the 12 members of the jury (9 men and 3 women) unanimously recommended the death penalty of Loyd, 46, for the murder of the agent Debra Clayton, 42, shot while on the run after killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, in December 2016.

Loyd he had already been convicted last November of first degree murder by the same jury.

The convicted person was expelled from the courtroom after engaging in an argument with his lawyer and the judge in charge of the case, Leticia Marques, on the date of the hearing for sentencing and if he was going to appear in another court hearing to present additional evidence, according to the Orlando Sentinel newspaper.

“I want to be sentenced today,” Loyd said., a request that was rejected by Marques.

“These people have been trying to kill me,” said Loyd in a moment of excitement, to add that the murder of the agent, committed in a Walmart chain store, “It never had to have happened.”

Before the officers took him out of the courtroom, Loyd said, “I love you all,” addressing his family members. who were sitting in the gallery, added the newspaper.

Loyd can only be sent to death row if the jury unanimously recommends it, as has happened.

Judge Marques will now have to decide whether to follow the jury’s recommendation or sentence Loyd to life imprisonment.

Loyd is now serving a life sentence without parole for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
