Correa’s movement rejects Assange’s extradition authorization to the United States.

The movement of former Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa, Citizen Revolution, rejected this Friday the decision of the Superior Court of Justice of London to authorize the extradition to the United States of Julian Assange.

“That puts his life at risk, since the country that requires it can prosecute him with the death penalty,” says a statement issued today in which it is assured that “international political persecution is intensifying.”

It also defends that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is clear in guaranteeing that every person “You have the right to seek asylum, and to enjoy it, in any country.”

The document censors that in the previous Government in Ecuador, headed by Lenín Moreno, and in which he was head of the Interior, María Paula Romo, and of Foreign Affairs, José Valencia, “They violated the human rights of Julian Assange.”

“They did not respect or guarantee the international status of asylee and allowed actors from other countries to enter the Embassy of Ecuador in the United Kingdom”, secure the document.

After almost seven years asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy, ​​Assange was removed from the building on April 11, 2019 by the British Police after the Executive of then-President Lenín Moreno, withdrawn that diplomatic protection.

Citizen Revolution considered that decision “A clear violation of Ecuadorian sovereignty” and he warned that “the return of an independent Justice in our country will place those responsible for these flagrant human rights violations in the place of history that corresponds to them.”

After denying extradition on the grounds of suicide, the London Court of Appeal concluded that the US government offers sufficient guarantees that the activist will receive adequate treatment to protect his mental health.

The founder of WikiLeaks, 50, will continue to be detained in the London high security prison of Belmarsh, where he is serving preventive detention until the end of this process, which can still be appealed by the defense.
