Kentucky Governor considers it a miracle to rescue more people from factory

The governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, considered this Saturday a “miracle” to find more survivors in a factory that collapsed in the town of Mayfield due to a storm that devastated six states in the US and from where 40 people have already been rescued.

“It will be a miracle if someone else is found alive.“Admitted the governor in a press conference.

Beshear explained that there is “At least 15 feet (about 4.5 meters) of metal with cars on top”, as well as barrels of corrosive chemicals.

“The devastation is unlike anything I have seen in my life and it is difficult for me to express it in words”, added the governor about the situation in his state, where he fears that the deceased will exceed one hundred.

Mayfield Consumer Products factory CEO Troy Propers told CNN about 110 people were on duty Friday night, although he said they are trying to count them all.

A Graves County jail official remained at the facility who lost his life, Correctional Facility Manager George Workman told CNN.

He noted that six inmates were also at the scene as part of a work program, three of whom suffered injuries.

Workman also reported that the jail was destroyed by the tornado, forcing him to evacuate about 83 inmates.

Aerial footage of Mayfield revealed the impact of the storm, wiping out buildings to rubble, leaving others homeless and throwing debris in its wake.

The local police ordered a curfew from 19:00 local time this Saturday (00:00 GMT on Sunday).
