G7 Says Last Chance for Iran to Accept Nuclear Deal

The G7 warned this Sunday to Iran that it is facing its “last chance” to reach an agreement on its nuclear program in the negotiations taking place in Vienna.

“This is the last chance for Iran. It is vital that they return to the dialogue table and be serious in the negotiations, “Liz Truss, UK Foreign Minister, who holds the rotating presidency of the G7, told a press conference.

The heads of diplomacy of the richest democracies in the world meet this weekend in Liverpool (northwest of England), where the Iranian nuclear program is one of the main focuses of interest, along with the accumulation of Russian troops next to Ukraine .

“We will not allow Iran to get hold of the nuclear weapon,” Truss emphatically told reporters.

Mutual accusations have dominated the resumption of negotiations in Vienna to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal that prevented Iran from developing atomic weapons.

The main obstacle remains how and when to lift the sanctions that the US reimposed on Iran when then-President Donald Trump abandoned the JCPOA, the pact’s technical name for its acronym in 2018.

With respect to China, another of the contentious issues that are being discussed in Liverpool. the British expressed the concern of the group (United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, United States, Japan and Canada, plus the European Union) about the “coercive economic policies” practiced by Beijing.

For this reason, he advocated that the great liberal democracies invest in countries “with the same mentality” and respect for freedoms.

“This weekend we have shown that the largest economies in the world are united; We have sent a powerful signal to our adversaries and allies ”, he stressed.

The G7 is expected to approve a final communiqué in which it will warn Russia about the consequences of any incursion into Ukraine and another general in which the major issues of international news will be addressed.

The group closes its meeting today with the invited presence of the heads of diplomacy of Australia, South Korea and the countries of Southeast Asia grouped in ASEAN.
