Canada apologizes to the military who have suffered sexual abuse

Anand stated during a televised intervention broadcast live on Facebook that he apologized because “successive governments have failed to eradicate sexual assaults, sexual harassment or discrimination based on sex, gender, gender identity and sexual orientation” in the forces armed.

Around 19,000 people, 60% of whom are women, have officially declared that they have suffered sexual abuse during their service. The statements are part of a class action lawsuit filed against the Canadian government.

His replacement, Admiral Art McDonald, was forced to resign on February 25, a month after taking office, after the Defense Ministry launched another investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by the military.

And in March 2021, one of the most prominent women in Canada’s armed forces, Lieutenant Colonel Eleanor Taylor, decided to leave the Army in rejection of what she called the “inappropriate use of power for the sexual exploitation” of women in the armed forces.
