Netherlands bans politician from comparing COVID-19 restrictions with Holocaust

One Dutch court on Wednesday prohibited Thierry Baudet, leader of the Forum for Democracy (FvD) party, from continuing to compare health restrictions against COVID-19 with the Holocaust.

The deputy will have to delete several of his statements on social networks in the next 48 hours, reported the Dutch media.

“With a fine of 25,000 euros [22.000 dólares] up to date if it does not comply ”, declared the judge, quoted by the Dutch press agency ANP. Baudet was convicted of having “uselessly offended the victims and relatives of victims of the Holocaust.”

“Excessive, incomprehensible sentence. We feel angry and combative. And of course we will appeal, ”Baudet declared on Twitter after the ruling.

The urgent process was initiated by four Jewish survivors of the Second World War, as well as the CJO, which regroups Jewish organizations in the Netherlands, and the Israel Information and Documentation Center, which monitor acts of anti-Semitism in the country.

They denounced Baudet for various posts on Twitter, especially his assertion that “the unvaccinated are the new Jews and those who do not want to see exclusion are the new Nazis.”
