Bolivia: Daughter of Jeanine Áñez denounces that her mother was attacked in prison by a police officer

Carolina Ribera, daughter of the former temporary president of Bolivia Jeanine Áñez, denounced this Wednesday that her mother “was attacked and beaten” by a police officer and that she fears for the safety of the ex-president, who is in preventive detention in a prison in La Paz.

“They entered my mother’s cell and wanted to make her sign a note, they wanted to force her, but she refused to sign,” Ribera told Efe.

He went on to explain that the incident happened on the afternoon of this Wednesday and that a lieutenant with the last name Durán entered his cell telling Áñez that he had to obey and that he had to sign that note of which they do not know its content.

“He began to get upset to kick everything there, he attacked my mother, he pushed her,” said Ribera.

This whole situation was told by his brother, who was with his mother, Ribera said.

Given this, Áñez decompensated and suffered a crisis again due to his arterial hypertension, Ribera stressed.

Then she was treated by a doctor who injected her with medication to stabilize her, but her daughter does not know the details of the situation.

So far his brother told him that Áñez is a little more stable, but that “anything can happen to him” and said that he fears for his mother’s life.

Áñez served nine months in preventive detention this week in a prison in La Paz for the so-called “coup d’état” case in which she is accused of sedition and terrorism.

However, the Ministry of Justice indicated that her detention is for the so-called “coup d’état II” case, in which she is accused of non-compliance with duties and resolutions contrary to the Constitution.

During his detention Áñez suffered various health problems, such as a crisis due to his high blood pressure, and on one occasion he injured his arm, stating that he no longer wanted to live.

The temporary former president months ago also presented hyperventilation, acute stomach pains, decompensations and kidney problems, in addition to depression.
