“On Thursday a mass grave was discovered in the Douraji area. So far the bodies of at least 11 Iraqi policemen have been removed … they are believed to have been in the hands of ISIS in 2018, “said the peshmerga (Iraqi Kurdistan Armed Forces) official.

Douraji, which has numerous caves that were used as hiding places by jihadists, is in Salaheddine province, in an area disputed between the federal government and autonomous Kurdistan.

The peshmergas and the Iraqi federal police are involved in these investigations, which continue to search for more bodies, according to the official, who explained that the discovery of the mass grave was made possible by “information obtained about the IS hiding places in the area.”
