Chile Elections 2021: Who is winning according to the latest polls carried out at hours of the second round?

The leftist Gabriel Boric has widened its lead in recent polls before the Chilean presidential elections Sunday, although the polarized race remains tight against the ultra-conservative rival Jose Antonio Kast.

Before the second round, two private polls seen by Reuters showed Boric, the 35-year-old former student protest leader, ahead of closet, 55, a far-right lawyer who has defended the legacy of military dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Chile, the world’s leading copper producer and long a role model of market-oriented economic policy in Latin America, is poised for its most divisive presidential vote in decades, with both candidates from outside the dominant centrist parties.

A private survey of fall, which surveyed 1,007 people with a 3.1% margin of error, showed that, expanding its lead over the last week when a similar survey showed it with 52% versus 48% for closet.

A second survey conducted by the consultancy Atlas Intel, which had shown a tie earlier in the week ,. The survey included 4,062 people with a 1% margin of error.

The country is in a two-week lockdown period in which pollsters cannot openly publish polls on the vote, but private polls are often commissioned.

The first opinion polls after the first round vote on November 21 had favored Boric, although that advantage seemed to be narrowing until the most recent polls.
