AMLO congratulates Gabriel Boric on his electoral victory in Chile: “Our joy is undeniable”

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, congratulated this Monday to Gabriel Boric for his triumph in the presidential elections of Chile Sunday.

“First express our satisfaction, our joy, it is undeniable, for the triumph of Gabriel Boric in Chile, I already congratulated him in the morning”, López Obrador declared in his daily press conference at the National Palace.

Boric, a 35-year-old former student leader who strengthened his political leadership during the social protests that the country faced in 2019, prevailed with more than 55% of the votes and by more than 10 points of difference to the far-right José Antonio Kast, who immediately recognized the defeat.

The leftist obtained more than 4.6 million votes of the more than 8.3 million voters who went to the polls.

“So I already congratulated him, I was delighted. I congratulate the people of Chile. I embrace the brother people of Chile, they have set an example for Latin America and for the world “, highlighted the president of Mexico.

Lopez Obrador, who is also assumed to be on the left, did not reveal details about his conversation with Boric.

Earlier, other cabinet secretaries congratulated the Chilean on social media, such as Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, the Secretary of Energy, Rocío Nahle, and the Secretary of Culture, Alejandra Frausto, who mentioned that “the united people can be heard from the land of Salvador Allende ”.

Other leaders of the Latin American left and allies of López Obrador have also joined in the congratulations, such as the presidents of Peru, Pedro Castillo; that of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, and that of Bolivia, Luis Arce.

“It is a triumph of democracy in Chile, in Latin America, the Caribbean, in the world,” concluded López Obrador.
