Trump insists that the assault on the Capitol was a “completely unarmed protest”

The former president of U.S Donald Trump (2017-2021) pointed out this Tuesday that the assault on Capitol of January 6, 2020 by his followers was a “completely disarmed protest” in rejection of what they describe as “rigged elections” that gave Joe Biden the winner.

In a statement, the ex-president announced a press conference in Mar-a-Lago, in southern Florida (USA), for next January 6, when it marks one year of the attempt by his followers to sabotage in the legislative headquarters in Washington the certification process of the current US president, Joe Biden.

Trump criticized the House committee investigating the assault, in which five people died and for which more than 700 people have been arrested since then in almost all the states of the country, among which 220 have been accused of attacking or obstructing the forces of order.

“Why are you not investigating the CAUSE of the January 6 protest, which was the rigged Presidential Election of 2020?” Asked the former president, who has never acknowledged his defeat in the November 2020 electoral process.

This Monday, Devlyn Thompson was sentenced to 3 years and 8 months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting police officers during the assault on the Capitol.

Federal Judge Royce C. Lambert, of the Court of the District of Columbia, where Washington DC is located, also ordered that the subject pay $ 2,000 in compensation.

The sentence exceeds the one imposed last November on Scott Fairlamb of New Jersey, who was the first person sentenced for assaulting a police officer during the assault on the Capitol.

On January 6, some 10,000 people – most of them Trump sympathizers – marched towards the Capitol and about 800 broke into the building to prevent the victory of the now US president, Joe Biden, from being ratified, over the Republican candidate in the elections of November 2020.

About 140 officers were attacked.
