Singapore will charge medical expenses to those who fall ill with coronavirus and are not vaccinated

The government of Singapore announced that as of December 8, it will begin to charge the cost of medical treatment against the coronavirus to those citizens who decide not to be vaccinated and who become infected with the covid-19.

“The Government is currently assuming full medical costs for all Singaporeans and permanent residents for the covid-19 (…) to avoid financial considerations that added to public uncertainty when the disease was an emerging and unknown disease “, indicated the Ministry of Health.

Thus, he highlighted in a statement published on his website that “For the majority who are vaccinated, this special stance on Covid-19 bills will continue until the situation is more stable ”, before adding that “Unvaccinated people make up a sizable majority of those in need of intensive care and contribute disproportionately to the burden on healthcare resources.”

“Thus, Starting December 8, 2021 we will start charging unvaccinated Covid-19 patients for their own choicehe said, before emphasizing that “The medical costs of those who were not among the vaccination groups, children under the age of twelve or persons not eligible for health reasons, will continue to be paid in its entirety by the Government ”.

In this way, he highlighted that unvaccinated patients of their own choosing “will still be able to resort to the usual financing arrangements for the health service to pay their bills when the time comes ”, including the existence of private health insurance.

The health portfolio indicated through its website that 86% of the population received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, including 85% who already have the full regimen, while 18% received a third booster dose.
