Biden and Putin to address security consultation agenda by phone

The presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, Y U.S, Joe Biden, they will address the agenda of the January 10 talks on the security guarantees required by Moscow by phone today, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Thursday.

“This is a continuation of the videoconference conversation (on December 7) and, in addition, the discussion of a series of current issues related to the consultations scheduled for 10, 11 and 12” January, said the representative of the Russian Presidency during his daily telephone press conference.

Peskov indicated that this afternoon’s conversation will be by telephone and will take place at the initiative of Putin, who at his annual press conference demanded “immediate” guarantees.

“The objective of the conversation is very clear, to continue the discussion of the issues that are on the agenda of the recent meeting by videoconference”, stressed.

Asked about the time chosen for the conversation, Peskov said that this is normal considering the difference in time zones between Moscow and Washington, and that it does not represent a problem for Putin, “especially when often (the head of the Kremlin) still works actively at that time ”.

Peskov stressed the need for this conversation because “the issues on the agenda are very complex.”

The representative of the Kremlin recalled that after the previous conversation between the two leaders, the Russian side formulated its position through the draft treaties proposed to the US and in agreement sent to NATO.

“For this reason, now, from the point of view of President Putin, the need arises for a new telephone conversation, after the aforementioned consultations,” He said.

Peskov insisted on the need to reach agreements and affirmed that “any conversation is carried out with a single objective, to reach compromises that contemplate the positions of principle of each party.”
