The increase occurs in coincidence with the beginning of the “Third wave” and the circulation of thousands of people who continue their summer vacations and have spent the festivities traveling around the country, where except for the province of Córdoba (center) —which restricted mass and local dance events until January 19— generally very light restrictions apply.

So far, the most affected provinces are Buenos Aires with 40,327 cases, followed by the capital of the country with 13,118 positives and Córdoba with 12,827 infections.

VACCINATION AND MEASURES

Argentina, with about 45 million inhabitants, has managed to get 38.4 million people to start their vaccination schedule, and 33.2 have completed it, while 2.7 million have an additional dose and 4.2 million have a booster dose.

Last October, the Argentine government relaxed most of the current restrictions and included the opening of borders.

This situation began to generate an escalation of cases since November with a particularly accelerated rate in December, giving rise to the “Third wave” by covid-19.

In any case, on January 1 of this year, the use of the health pass began to govern, which will require proof of complete vaccination schedules to be able to attend activities considered to be “Epidemiological risk”, such as mass events outdoors or indoors.

In accordance with the latest government regulations, anyone who wishes to enter the country must undergo PCR tests due to the increase in cases of the omicron variant.

Additionally, the use of four types of self-evaluations has been authorized to decompress public testing centers that are not sufficient.
