Elections in Barinas: Venezuelan opposition asks to respect the results of the elections

The former opposition candidate to the Governor of the state of Barinas – cradle of Hugo Chávez- Freddy Superlano He asked this Sunday that the results of the repetition of the elections in said region, ordered by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), be respected.

“We want to make a very clear call to respect what was expressed today, January 9, to respect what people said in each of the voting centers, to respect popular expression.r ”, said the leader at a press conference from the campaign command in the city of Barinas.

The repetition of these elections was ordered by the Supreme Court after issuing a ruling in which it argued that Superlano, who narrowly won the then official candidate, Argenis Chávez, ran despite being disqualified.

The opponent supports the candidate Sergio Garrido, who had already been elected in the elections on November 21, but on that occasion, as a councilor.

“Many of the high ranking officials of the regime are no longer in Barinas, they have left. I could say that they left with their tails between their legs, that they left the city. As we have predicted in the past, it was enough for the people of Barinas to respond on 9 (January) for them to leave and they are gone, ”he added.

He also said that the voting centers in the region that do not have more voters in line began to close at 18:00 local time (22:00 GMT), as established by the National Electoral Council (CNE).

“We call on the Republic Plan (Armed Forces), the CNE, polling station members, witnesses, that where there are no voters, according to the law, the closing process begins,” he requested.

On the other hand, Superlano denounced that during the voting day there were “abuses” in the Cruz Paredes municipality, where three opposition political leaders were detained, who acted as witnesses in the polling stations, early in the morning.

“Only for making complaints, by the way, of something that appeared during the process that was the assisted vote, something that has been minimized, almost disappeared from the past event and that appeared timidly in this municipality and our witnesses reported very clearly and for this they were arbitrarily detained, “he explained.

He maintained that two of them have already been released but there is a witness who is still in prison.
