Uruguay registers 7 deaths and a new record of daily coronavirus infections

Uruguay registered this Monday the death of 7 people with a diagnosis of covid-19 and it reached a new record of daily infections, with 6,760 positives, and of active cases, with 43,347, according to the daily report of the National Emergency System (Sinae).

Of the 24,677 analyzes carried out, 6,760 were positive, so the country accumulates 456,179 total cases since the health emergency was declared on March 13, 2020 due to the detection of the first four infections by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Of this total, 43,347 are people who are suffering from the disease and 43 of them are in intensive treatment centers (ICS).

On this day there were seven fatalities, of which the youngest was a 48-year-old woman in Canelones (south) and the oldest was an 86-year-old man in Montevideo, so the total number of deaths from covid-19 increased to 6,199.

On December 29, Uruguay confirmed the arrival of the omicron variant of covid-19 after the increase in cases in recent weeks led scientists in the country to suspect that it had already entered and genomic sequencing led to its detection.

The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Salinas, explained at that time that the health authorities expected a “similar behavior” to that in the world, that is, a “very strong” increase in cases despite vaccination, although with particular characteristics. .

On November 1, Uruguay opened its borders for anyone who has completed the vaccination process (14 days have passed after the inoculation of the last necessary dose).

In addition, this country eliminated the obligation for tourists to undergo a PCR test to detect the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus one week after entering.

Regarding vaccination, according to the web monitor developed by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) until 7:27 p.m. (21.27 GMT) this Monday, 2,679,753 people (75.63% of the population) completed their schedule of immunization of the Chinese pharmaceutical companies Sinovac, the Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca and the American Pfizer.

In addition, 96,695 people were inoculated with only the first dose, while 1,567,544 received a third dose.
