Florida averages more than 60,000 daily coronavirus infections with omicron, a new record

The state of Florida (USA) drastically increased the number of coronavirus cases in the last seven days, adding 430,297 in the week from January 7 to 13, which is equivalent to a new record with more than 61,000 daily infections on average, reported this health authorities Friday.

According to the weekly report of the Department of Health of Florida published today, the most recent week far exceeded the previous one, whose report accounted for 396,353 cases and a positivity rate of 31.3%.

However, and according to the same source, the rate of infections throughout the state fell slightly this last week to 29.3%.

Media such as Local 10 television, from South Florida, attribute the slight decrease to the fact that Florida it may have already reached the peak of the increase in the omicron variant, citing health authorities who “express their optimism” in this regard.

The Hospital Association of Florida (FHA, for its acronym in English), which has once again offered a daily report on income related to the pandemic on Twitter, confirmed that this January 14 there are 11,160 people hospitalized.

Of these, 22.5% remain in intensive care units (ICU).
