China detects 223 new cases of coronavirus in one day, 163 of them by local transmission

The National Health Commission of China announced today the detection of 223 new positives of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 this Sunday, 163 of them by local contagion.

These community transmission cases were reported in Tianjin (north, 80), Henan (center, 68), Guangzhou (south, 9), Shaanxi (center, 5), and Guangxi (south, 1).

The remaining 60 infections, found among travelers from abroad, were detected in various regions of the country, but most of them were found in the megalopolis of Shanghai, with 35 cases, one of the main gateways to China, which maintains its borders practically closed since March 2020.

Health authorities also reported today the detection of 28 asymptomatic cases, all of them local, although Beijing does not count them as confirmed cases unless they show symptoms.

The total of this type of infections under observation is 742, of which 692 come from other territories.

The National Health Commission also detailed that, until last local midnight (4:00 p.m. GMT on Sunday), 190 patients were discharged after successfully overcoming covid.

The total number of active infected in the China continental amounts to 3,494, 15 of which are serious.

According to the institution’s accounts, since the start of the pandemic, 105,087 people have been infected in the country, among whom 96,957 managed to recover and 4,636 died.

To date, medical follow-up has been carried out on more than 1.4 million close contacts with those infected, of which some 56,000 are still under observation.
