Mexico: Arrest of Inés Gómez Mont ordered for organized crime case

The Attorney General of Mexico reported this Thursday that an arrest warrant was issued against the popular Mexican presenter Inés Gómez Mont, her husband, Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, and 5 other people, involved in organized crime and operations with resources of illicit origin.

In a statement, the Prosecutor’s Office specified that in November 2019, through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), it initiated an investigation folder against Víctor Manuel “A”, Inés “G”, Edgardo Mauricio “V ”, Rosario “A”, Margarita “C”, Ricardo “P”, Mauricio “R” and seven companies, for their possible participation in organized crime and operations with resources of illicit origin.

“Those primarily responsible for the probable commission of these crimes have been charged before the Judiciary and the corresponding arrest warrants have been obtained,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.

He explained that “three of them are already being held in federal criminal justice centers” and that in the cases of those who fled the country “the corresponding red card has been obtained and the international collaboration response is awaited.” .

The Prosecutor’s Office said that, according to the investigations, these people “probably colluded to simulate operations and provide resources to that criminal organization; lowering tax burdens and hiding operations, thus hindering the tracking of those resources.”

He added that, in order to fulfill this objective, “they presumably entered into various contracts” with the Decentralized Administrative Body for Prevention and Social Rehabilitation of the Ministry of the Interior, “using digital tax receipts online, which concealed false operations and appeared to be acts of commerce and the provision of services. services that were not performed.

All this with “the purpose of laundering money, disguising said crimes of legal profits that were nonexistent.”

The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that the main organization was in charge of Víctor Manuel “A” and Inés “G”, who operated with alleged representatives of legal entities.

In addition, he said that during the investigation it was possible to obtain information that there was a group formed by Héctor “Z”, Armando “R”, José “O”, Ricardo “C”, Yareli “C”, who carried out banking operations through name of legal persons.

While the next group, made up of public servants, was the one that illegally facilitated the resources of the federal treasury, entering into illegal contracts, and in that structure they found Eduardo “G”, Paulo “U”, Emanuel “C”, Jesús ” P” and Jorge “N”.

In the case of one of the companies that intervened and was represented by its agent Héctor “Z”, he received more than 2,500 million pesos (about 122 million dollars) in the probable commission of the aforementioned crimes.

The Prosecutor’s Office pointed out as “fundamental in this investigation to point out two contracts with the Federal Centers for Social Readaptation, for 2,950 million pesos (144 million dollars).

On October 19, 2021, Interpol issued a red search and arrest warrant against Gómez Mont and Álvarez Puga.

In mid-September it emerged that the couple was accused of embezzlement (misappropriation of funds), organized crime and operations with resources of illicit origin, amounting to 3,000 million pesos (about 146 million dollars).

On September 29, the popular presenter declared herself “innocent” in a video released on social networks and denied any link to organized crime.
