Woman faces death penalty for causing fire in Taiwan

A woman accused of having deliberately started the fire of an apartment building on the island —which in October caused 46 deaths—, the worst of Taiwan in decades. This Friday, she was charged with murder and faces the death penalty.

On October 15, a fire broke out in the south of the city of Kaohsiung, destroying several apartments in a 13-story building, before firefighters could control it.

The 51-year-old woman, identified by her last name, HuangShe was charged with murder and arson.

Huang “he intended to start a fire to annoy his partner, which led to a great catastrophe and the death of many innocents”, highlighted the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor’s Office in a statement.
