Bolivia registers 9,590 new cases and 66 deaths from coronavirus

Bolivia registered this Friday 9,590 new cases of COVID-19 and 66 deaths, with a fatality rate of 0.6% in this fourth wave of infections that the country is going through, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health.

The departments that register the highest number of new infections are La Paz with 2,231, central Cochabamba with 2,181 and eastern Santa Cruz, the hardest hit by the pandemic, with 1,660.

In the other six regions of the country, the cases range between 721 and 100 new infections.

With these latest data Bolivia accumulates 804,677 cases of covid-19 and 20,570 deaths, since the first infections were registered in March 2020.

So far, 632,464 recovered patients have been reported and 151,643 cases are still active and with a fatality rate of 0.6%, according to the report.

Bolivia It is going through the fourth wave of infections that began at the end of October of last year, but which presented a higher incidence at the end of December and the beginning of this year with record numbers of cases throughout the pandemic that exceeded 14,000 daily infections.

The health authorities confirmed the presence of the omicron variant in the country and at the end of last year a Health Emergency was declared due to the increase in cases and they recommended that people go to the vaccination points to avoid complications.

This week the Government of Luis Arce decided to suspend the requirement of the vaccination card for people to enter public places for the duration of the Health Emergency, a measure that had been applied since January 1 and was later postponed until January 26. January.

This setback was due to the constant protests of groups that were against the requirement of the vaccination card and the Government argued that the suspension of the presentation of this document is to avoid crowds.

The report from the Ministry of Health details that so far 5,605,820 first doses, 4,057,474 second, 810,473 third and 994,961 single doses have been applied.

In total, some 11.4 million vaccines have already been used, which are applied to the vaccinable population over 5 years of age, according to the report.

The vaccines applied in the country are Sinopharm and Sputnik V, which have been acquired by the Government, and those from AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Janssen and Moderna, donated to the country through the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization ( WHO).
