The prosecution of France This Thursday he asked for 20 years in prison for the main defendant for the death in 2018 of vanessa fields, a Peruvian transsexual prostitute in a forest in Paris, a case that revealed the violence suffered by this group.

The prosecutor, Olivier Auféril, asked for 20 years in prison against Mahmoud Kadri |, as well as his expulsion from French territory, for “murder in an organized gang”.

Although during the trial that began on January 11 before a court of first instance in Paris, the eight defendants, all Egyptians, gave different versions of the events, for Auféril, “the author of the shot was Mahmoud Kadri.”

Kadri points to another defendant as the author of the shot, Karim Ibrahim, against whom the public ministry requested 15 years in prison and his expulsion from French territory for “complicity in the homicide in an organized gang.”

For the other six, the prosecution requested five years in prison –in one case with a three-year suspended sentence– for participating in the events or in the theft of the weapon that killed fields, as well as the prohibition to set foot in France, for 10 years in two cases.

vanessa fields, 36 years old and in an irregular situation, died of a gunshot to the chest on the night of August 16 to 17, 2018 in the Boulogne forest, one of the lungs of the French capital known for the presence of sex workers.

The investigation quickly focused on a group of young people of Egyptian origin, who took advantage of sexual services to rob the workers and their clients. The trial against a ninth defendant was postponed after he did not appear on the third day of the trial.

Campos’s death brought to light the violence suffered by prostitutes. In February 2020, Jessyca Sarmiento, another Peruvian trans sex worker, was killed by a car in the same forest. According to witnesses, the attack was intentional.

The verdict is expected on Saturday, January 29.
