Argentina registers 63,884 new cases and 305 deaths from coronavirus

Argentina registered this Friday 63,884 new cases of the COVID-19, with which the total number of positives amounted to 8,271,636, while deaths rose to 120,657 after 305 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The figures mark a decline from the infections reported last Thursday, when 77,729 infections were reported.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate reported on this day for the country as a whole was 57.3%, since 111,387 tests were carried out throughout the national territory.

According to official figures, there are 7.3 million people who were infected and have been discharged, while the number of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of the coronavirus who remain admitted to intensive care units was 2,945 this Friday, in growth in recent weeks, but below the maximum peak of 7,969 on June 14.

The percentage of bed occupancy in intensive care units for all types of pathologies is 49.9% at the national level and 48.3% if only Buenos Aires and its outskirts are considered.

Last October, the Argentine government relaxed most of the health restrictions, including the total opening of borders. However, cases began to rise from November and took on a dizzying pace in the last weeks of December, giving rise to a third wave of covid-19.

For this reason, it was imposed that from January 1 the mandatory use of the health pass, which will require accrediting complete vaccination schemes to be able to attend activities considered of “epidemiological risk”, such as massive events outdoors or in closed spaces, as well as in long-distance transportation.

Argentina, with some 45 million inhabitants, continues with its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus that began at the end of 2020.

Official data from the health portfolio indicated that so far 86.5 million doses have been applied and another 96.3 million have been distributed, of which more than 5 million were donated.

At least 39.5 million people received the first dose of the vaccine, while 34.8 million were already inoculated with the second.

Likewise, more than 3 million Argentines have received an additional dose (when the initial immune response is probably insufficient) and another 9.1 million received a booster dose or third dose, within the framework of the vaccination strategy initiated in October to strengthen the immunity of various groups.
