To help businesses and the distribution of emergency food aid for the poorest populations of the island, hard hit by the crisis, the government announced on Wednesday specific economic and social support measures for Mayotte.

“In order to support companies in Mayotte and support the Maori population in the face of the health crisis and restrictive measures, the government is deciding on specific economic and social support measures for the territory,” the ministers said in a joint statement. de l’Economie, Bruno Le Maire, du Travail, Elisabeth Borne, et des Outre-mer, Sébastien Lecornu.

Certain economic aid doubled

“With an incidence rate of 834 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on February 15, Mayotte is facing a worrying epidemic situation which justifies the total containment put in place since February 5 for a period of at least 3 weeks”, indicates the press release. “This confinement is associated with a closure of schools and educational establishments and an obligation to work from home, unless this is impossible. These decisions, essential to protect the health of our fellow citizens, have a significant impact on the economy of Mayotte, ”he adds.

The government has therefore decided to put in place on this island in the Indian Ocean a series of specific measures available under conditions for companies: “the doubling of the ceiling for aid from the solidarity fund for the duration of the confinement” (brought to 3,000 euros), “the maintenance of aid from the solidarity fund for businesses closed administratively”, “the coverage for the duration of the confinement of the entire partial activity”, and “the exemption from contributions employers’.

Living conditions that make confinement almost impossible

The deferral of tax and social charges will also be possible “for all Mahoran companies who wish it” adds the text. In addition, the State “will ensure the distribution of emergency food aid and access to drinking water for the poorest populations”, assure the ministers.

MP LR Mansour Kamardine estimated at the beginning of February that confinement was not the solution in Mayotte, where “the living conditions and access to basic services (water, electricity) of half of the population make confinement impossible. to respect “.
