TER ticket prices are likely to increase in 2023 in most regions of France. In question: the rise in energy prices, which will impact the management of the regional transport service by the SNCF, reports The Parisian.
For the moment, it is difficult to know the extent of this increase. The regions are awaiting the forecast figures from the railway company. The increase in energy bills could range from 10 to 30% depending on the region, which would represent an additional cost of several million euros for each region.
Increases in the spring in certain regions
“We will not be able to absorb everything”, confides a regional president to the Parisian. “Prices will increase almost everywhere. “The Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Regional Council has chosen to anticipate and voted to increase TER prices from January 1, 2023. The increase will be 8% for “occasional” customers, and 2.8% for subscribers.
The New Aquitaine and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions are preparing to vote similar increases. In Ile-de-France, it is the Navigo pass which could be modified and whose subscription could reach 100 euros per month. The Grand-Est region prefers, for its part, to temporize and wait for the figures from the SNCF. The increase will take place in the spring.
To lower the bill, one solution for the regions would be to lower the rate of TER. But in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, where attendance “Increases by 8%”, it is excluded. Same thing for the Grand Est region which wants to offer an alternative to the car and which hopes that the increase in prices will not prevent the inhabitants from making the right choice.
