Firewood energy check: how to request on Tuesday

The counter is open. Starting this Tuesday, December 27 at 8:00 am, approximately 2.6 million households can begin the wood energy check process. A breath of fresh air, the average price of a cubic meter of wood increased by 20% in a year, when the cost of pellets doubled or even tripled and reached 15 euros for a bag of 15 kg! To the chagrin of people who have invested several thousand euros in a pellet stove, encouraged by significant government assistance.

About 70% of households that are primarily heated by wood are eligible for this income-based supplement. “The French will be able to access it, earning up to 2,260 euros per person and up to 4,750 euros for a couple with two children,” Gabriel Attal explained in an interview with Parisien at the end of November.

Households must go to chequeboisfioul.asp-public.fr, a platform created by the Services and Payments Agency (ASP). And provide “a personal invoice confirming the purchase of firewood for a minimum amount of 50 euros (or a certificate for households in collective heating)”, specifies the Ministry of Economy.

The first checks were sent in mid-February 2023.

Wood-heated households are entitled to a check of €100 for the humblest and €50 for those with higher incomes. Households that use pellets in a pellet stove will receive twice the amount, given much stronger price increases than traditional firewood.

The first checks should be sent from mid-February 2023, and the counter for applications will remain available until April 30. It can be used to pay part of a future wood or pellet bill, or used with other suppliers for any energy bill (electricity, gas, fuel oil, etc.).

While this assistance cannot be combined with an oil energy test, it is in addition to the €48 to €277 annual energy test that 20% of French people receive each year. As well as an exceptional energy check worth between 100 and 200 euros, which will be received by 12 million households in the coming weeks. In these two cases, no procedures are required, the tax authorities send a letter with a check directly to your home.
