Simulator: do you earn more or less than the inhabitants of your city?

Do you earn more or less than your neighbors? Is your income one of the highest or lowest in your municipality? This is what we invite you to find out through our simulator, created using data published by DGFiP in July, on income collected in 2020 and declared in 2021, while the 2022 income declaration campaign began this Thursday .

Our simulator is based on data provided by the General Directorate of Public Finance, which divides households into six separate tranches. The first groups the share of households that declared tax income from 0 to 10,000 euros, the second – from 10,001 to 20,000 euros, the third – from 20,001 to 30,000 euros, the fourth – from 30,001 to 50,000 euros, the fifth – from 50,001 up to 100,000 euros and finally the sixth, which includes tax households that have declared more than 100,000 euros.

What part of the population in your municipality earns as much as you?

So by entering your benchmark tax income into our tool, you will be able to find out which group you are in and what percentage of your municipality’s residents are in the same group as you. You will also be able to see the fiscal physiognomy of your city, and what part of the population is in each of the brackets. What proportion of households in your municipality earn more than €50,000 per year? Or over 100,000?

For example, if your household tax income is between €20,001 and €30,000 and you live in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, you are in the 16.9% of your arrondissement in this group. According to statistics, 48% of taxable households are in a higher category than yours, and 35% are in a lower category.

Data released by DGFiP shows that 39.9 million tax households declared income totaling €1,238 billion in 2021. After examining the declarations, 17.9 million of them were subject to income tax. Finally, 3.2 million was recovered through tax credits.
