Taxes: tax filing deadlines

If you haven’t already, you’ll have to hurry up. Residents of the 55 departments (Meuse) of the overseas territories, and therefore the entire Île-de-France, have until midnight on Thursday 8 June to complete their tax return online at impots.gouv.fr. And these taxpayers really have no excuse compared to the rest of the French, since they had eight weeks to fulfill their obligations, which is one more than the inhabitants of 20 departments (Hauts Corse and Corse du Sud) in 54 (Meurthe) . -i-Moselle). And even two more than in departments 1 (Ain) to 19 (Correz).

Paper Declarants (those who do not have internet access or feel able to declare online) only until midnight on Monday, May 22 (as confirmed by postmark) to submit their tax return. For taxpayers eligible for automatic declaration – they were informed by e-mail or by mail, the information “will be automatically verified without any specific action on your part”, clarifies the General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP). “And, of course, you will not be considered insolvent. But you had to check the declaration and, if necessary, correct some data and in this case sign it.

If you are late, you can fill out the declaration online until June 30th, the closing date of the online platform. Also, you will have to go through a paper form. The tax owed will only be increased by 10% if you finally complete your tax return without formal notice. But the note will increase to +20% if you fulfill your obligations within thirty days of the official notice and +40% if the declaration has not been filed within thirty days of receiving the letter. And if the tax authorities find that you are engaged in occult activities, an 80 percent surcharge will be applied to you. All this without taking into account interest for late payment, in the amount of 0.20% of the tax amount per month of delay or 2.4% per year.

However, you can take advantage of the tax authorities’ leniency by applying for a free rebate at a public financial center you depend on. Especially if you are faced with exceptional circumstances (death of a spouse, divorce, disability, illness). But its processing is entirely at the discretion of the General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP), which will take into account, in particular, “the tax history of the applicant in terms of declaration and payment.”
