Housing crisis: Ponan Islands also wants to tax second homes

The problem of second homes also affects the Ponan Islands. Away from the continent (especially in Finistere) they always strive for a certain autonomy in order to survive “all year round”, and not just in the summer season.

In addition, after a recent meeting on the island of Ouate (Morbihan), the mayors of Ile du Ponan, as well as the Association of Ile du Ponan (AIP)*, decided to position themselves very clearly in favor of increasing the housing tax for second homes. “The goal is not to fight second home ownership,” says Denis Bredin, president of AIP, “but to free up resources to address the increasingly complex problem of year-round housing. »

Ouessant bought houses

A striking example is Ouessant in Northern Finistère. “We need to fill year-round jobs, but we no longer have housing to accommodate our workers…” The municipality has already bought more than twenty houses to solve this problem, and work is underway on the construction of several apartments in the near future. But will this be enough? “With regard to the tax on secondary housing, Ouessant has chosen a tax on the municipal share of 50%; Belle-Ile and Brea – 60%, adds Denis Breden. Please note, this is indeed the municipal share of the tax, we are by no means on the entire tax. »

As for Seine and Molene, two small pearls of the Iroise Sea still in Finistère, “it just doesn’t work.” For what ? “They have no land register and therefore no property tax. In short, there is no tax base. This system is impossible to implement. Therefore, it will be necessary to find other solutions that will help finance new housing for these two cute “stones”.
