Last Friday, banks JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and UnitedHealth kicked off the financial earnings season by posting earnings above expectations, boosting gains on Wall Street.

Still, instability in the Middle East and rising oil prices may contribute to exacerbating volatility in the markets.

Investors will be watching the US Federal Reserve, which will have to make a decision on interest rates in November.
