Floods in Hautes-de-France: insurance costs estimated at 550 million euros

The score is very difficult. The Central Reinsurance Fund (CCR) estimated on Wednesday at 550 million euros the cost of floods covered by the Hauts-de-France disaster regime, at least half of which it bears.

“This is an extremely important event, exceptional in terms of the scale of the departments affected,” said Edouard Vieifond, CEO of the state-owned reinsurer.

In early November, the Pas-de-Calais and the north suffered devastating floods. In some municipalities, sometimes the water level on streets and houses is about a meter. A total of 181 municipalities in Pas-de-Calais and 24 in the north have already been declared to be in a state of disaster. 5,200 people are still subject to water restrictions and 45 homes are still without power.

Although floods, cyclones and droughts are natural phenomena, they can be exacerbated by human-caused global warming.
