Putin ordered nuclear exercises in response to Western “threats”

The Kremlin still poses a nuclear threat in the conflict in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has just ordered nuclear exercises “in the near future.” These exercises, in particular, should involve troops based near Ukraine, in response to “threats” from Western leaders against Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defense explained.

They will involve the air force, navy and forces of the Southern Military District, which is based very close to Ukraine and covers certain Ukrainian regions that Moscow is supposedly annexing.

“During the exercises, a set of activities will be carried out to test the preparation and use of non-strategic nuclear weapons,” the department continues, adding that the measure was taken “on instructions from the Commander-in-Chief of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.” Russian Federation” by Vladimir Putin in response to the “threats” of Western leaders against Moscow.

Moscow is unhappy with nuclear energy

In October 2023, Russia announced that Vladimir Putin controlled ballistic missile launches during military maneuvers aimed at simulating a “massive nuclear strike” in response by Moscow.

During these exercises, an Iars intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in northern Russia, and another Sineva ballistic missile was launched from a submarine in the Barents Sea.

Their outfit was made public on the same day that the upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council, approved the cancellation of ratification of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Since the conflict in Ukraine began in February 2022, the president has repeatedly spoken out about the possible use of nuclear weapons. In the summer of 2023, Russia deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, its closest ally and EU neighbor. Russian nuclear doctrine provides for the “strictly defensive” use of atomic weapons in the event of an attack on Russia using weapons of mass destruction or in the event of aggression using conventional weapons that “threaten the very existence of the state.”
