South Africa: 11 missing after fishing boat capsized

Eleven of twenty crew members on a fishing boat South Africa They went missing after their boat capsized in the Atlantic, 30 nautical miles from the Cape of Good Hope, marine rescue services said on Saturday.

The fishing boat issued a distress signal on Friday, but local authorities said they had not given up hope of finding the eleven missing sailors, although air and sea searches have yielded no results so far.

“I pray with the families of those still missing at sea,” said Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.

South Africa’s National Maritime Rescue Institute said the ship sent a distress signal on Friday afternoon.

Other fishing boats in the area were rescued nine crewwho were on board a lifeboat.

A rescue operation was launched involving rescue vessels maritime, helicopters and planes.
