Taxes 2024: from April 11 you will be able to declare your income online

Those who can’t wait to experience this spring ritual will only have to wait a few days. The online income tax refund service opens next week on Thursday 11 April. Taxpayers will then have six to eight weeks to connect to their specific space on the official website impots.gouv.fr, fill out and then verify their information.

In detail, taxpayers from department numbers 1 (En) to 19 (Correze) or abroad must complete this formality before midnight on May 23. Residents of departments 20 (Corse du Sud and Haute Corse) to 54 (Meurthe et Moselle) will get an extra week until May 30.

Finally, residents of departments 55 (Meuse) to 976 (Mayotte) – that is, all departments of the Ile-de-France – will have until June 6 to fulfill their obligations. A traditional reversal designed to avoid overcrowding on the impots.gouv.fr platform, where many taxpayers procrastinate and wait until the last day to complete their return.

The tax scale is overestimated by 4.8%

Taxpayers who still have the option to elect a paper return (Form 2042) have until Tuesday, May 21 to do so, regardless of department of residence. The sending of pre-filled returns by tax authorities has already begun and will continue until the end of April. Please note: In theory, paper can only be used by taxpayers who do not have internet access at their place of residence or who do not feel able to complete these formalities online.

The 2024 declaration campaign will be marked by a revaluation of the income tax scale at 4.8%. In short, this means that if your income increases by less than 4.8% in 2023, you’ll end up paying less in taxes.
