Fuel prices are rising again, a liter of gasoline is flirting with 2 euros

The transition to gas stations will remain a painful moment for the French. According to data recorded and published by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, fuel prices have increased over the past week. SP95-E10 even reached its highest value since the beginning of the year: last Friday it cost an average of 1.896 euros per liter, that is, 3.2 cents more than the previous week and 12 cents more than at the beginning of January.

Diesel fuel has also become more expensive: a liter can be bought for 1.79 euros, an increase of 2.5 cents, according to the Ministry of Ecological Transition. In February, diesel was selling for almost the same price as unleaded, but since then the price of the latter has risen much faster.

The price of a barrel has increased

It must be said that the price of a barrel of Brent from the North Sea (a barrel of benchmark oil in Europe) continues to rise. From $76.7 in January it is now around $90 in early April. “Such situation (geopolitics) that will set the price in the coming months,” analyzed RMC Francis Puss, national president of the fuel and new energy distributors branch of the Mobilians union.

“Fuel prices have risen again since the beginning of the year. “Especially without lead,” added Francis Puss. This was due to supply difficulties. There, at the moment, we have returned to the normal price level, that is, diesel fuel is about 10 cents cheaper. »

While the situation in the Middle East complicates oil supplies, the countries of the OPEC+ alliance, primarily Saudi Arabia and Russia, announced in early March that they were continuing their strategy of playing on oil shortages. , keeping millions of barrels underground per day to drive up oil prices.
