Antifreeze in beer: batches of “1664” are recalled in Occitania and New Aquitaine

Residents of Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine will have to be vigilant before the next aperitifs. Government website Rappel Conso reported this week that batches of the white beer 1664 were found to be unfit for consumption due to the “incidental presence of ethylene glycol,” an antifreeze agent. The chemical was discovered during an inspection.

Consuming the drink “may cause symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness and vomiting,” the government website states, asking not to consume the product and to return it to the store for a refund.

About 200 stores affected

In more detail, the corresponding batches have numbers from L087N1100 to L087N1500 (data visible above the packaging). These are just packs of 12 bottles of 25 cl. They were sold from April 3 to April 10 in New Aquitaine and Occitania.

Around 200 Intermarché stores are affected, including in Limoges, Niort, Rochefort, Bayonne, La Rochelle, Pau, Tarbes… The full list can be found here.
