Air traffic controllers strike: Companies expect ‘significant’ flight cancellations this Thursday

Thursday’s strike by air traffic controllers will be “a movement that is being watched very closely,” Pascal de Izaguirre, president of the aviation sector’s main body, warned at a press conference on Tuesday.

“We were told that 75% of flights were canceled to Orly and 65% to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle. This will have a huge impact,” said the president of the National Federation of Aviation and its Trades (Fnam), as all unions called for a strike by air traffic controllers after negotiations on accompanying measures to overhaul the planes collapsed. traffic control.

“About Face”

According to a first estimate provided to airlines and obtained by Les Échos, up to 70% of flights were canceled at major airports on Thursday. All the strikers have not yet declared themselves; they have until Tuesday to do this.

SNCTA, which represents 60% of the voices among air traffic controllers, spoke out in a press release earlier this month about a “U-turn” by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) that “directly calls into question the sincerity of the negotiations and the compromises found so far. She therefore “served notice of strike on April 25, 2024.”
