Cycling: Lotte Kopecky, world champion and winner of Paris-Roubaix, withdraws from Tour de France

The reigning world champion has decided to abandon the Tour de France (August 12-18). Belgian cyclist Lotte Kopecky wants to devote herself entirely to preparations for the Paris Olympics, her team SD Worx announced on Tuesday.

Danny Stam, manager of the Dutch team, explained this choice: “Combining the two competitions would require too much mental load. If she is an Olympic champion, she will release too many nerve impulses to be competitive the next day. And it will also be impossible for him to go to Rotterdam in the evening. »

Sequence too fast

The women’s Tour de France is actually scheduled to start in Rotterdam this year, the day after the Olympic Games omnium. Lotte Kopecky shone at the 2023 Grande Boucle show. The Belgian took the stage win, won the green jersey and finished second overall after wearing the yellow jersey for six days.

The 28-year-old is off to a great start to the season, having already won Strade Bianche as well as Paris-Roubaix. Before the Olympics, she is expected to participate in the Tour of England (6-9 June) and the Giro (7-14 July).
