The newspaper library passes bill to the ministers Garzón and Iglesias with the rise in light: “No decent government should tolerate it”

The old tweets of the Vice President and the Minister of Consumption with the previous increases in the electricity bill contrast with their reaction to the increase in the rate in the heat of the cold wave

The cold wave hits homes: the price of electricity registers its second highest level in history this Friday

The newspaper library can be a great curse, especially for those who, over time, have risen to power. Criticism of the government is easy from the opposition, but governing means negotiating and reaching agreements that one never imagined they would reach. This Friday, Twitter has become the worst possible newspaper library for members of the Government, especially for those who most voraciously criticized the increases in light in the past.

The light price in the wholesale market has exploded amidst the hello frão and this Friday the average daily price stands at 94.99 euros / megawatt hour (MWh), the second-highest in history after the 103.76 euros that marked on January 11, 2002, reports Efe . The average daily price of electricity for tomorrow is more than double the average monthly price that closed December (41.97 euros / MWh) and close to triple the annual average in 2020 (34 euros / MWh), a year of abnormally low prices due to the drop in consumption derived from restrictions to curb the pandemic of coronavirus. If compared with the annual average price of 2019 (47.68 euros / MWh), the price this Friday is also almost double.

“Thousands of families will not be able to keep their homes at adequate temperatures, which will seriously affect the health of those who have the least. No decent government should tolerate it.” It could be a critical tweet against the Government of Pedro Sánchez, but no. The statement corresponds to a publication of the current Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzon, on December 1, 2017, when the increase in the electric bill was 10%, far from the 27% of this beginning of 2021.

“Sánchez, Iglesias and Garzón; your trusted politicians”, the official account of the PP This tweet by Garzón, among other statements of the same type, among which one by the current Prime Minister stands out: “The 8% rise in electricity proves the failure of Rajoy’s electricity reform,” said Sánchez in 2014. The reminder of the words of Pablo Iglesias, who shared a news story similar to that of today, is not wasted either: “The price of electricity soars in the heat of the cold wave.” In 2017, the headline suggested to the current vice president the following reflection: “Shooting the electricity bill on a day like today only shows the greed of the electricity companies. If the Government consents, it will be an accomplice.”

“Almost four million people voted for us, we want those votes to be transformed into dignity and we want the electricity bill to go down,” recalls the deputy from Citizens in the Valencian Courts Toni sang, “It was not the Minister of Consumer Affairs, it was Citizen Garzón.”

The newspaper library has also taken its toll on the consumer organization Facua, which has applied a very different approach to reporting the rise in light this year compared to 2013.
