Coronavirus Renfe suspends its new ‘low cost’ AVE AVLO

Renfe has announced that its new high-speed service, AVLO, will start commercial circulation next June 23, according to the president of the company, IsaÃas Táboas, on the board of directors.

The low-cost train was to start its journey initially on April 6, 2020, but had to postpone its premiere due to the health crisis. In this new beginning, four daily circulations in each direction between Madrid and Barcelona will begin its service, “expandable throughout the year depending on the evolution of demand”, according to Renfe.

The service will also have stops in all the cities of the Renfe Northeast Corridor (Guadalajara, Calatayud, Zaragoza, Lleida, Tarragona, Girona and Figueres).

With 438 seats per train (20% more seats than the current 112 series trains), Avlo will become Renfe’s high-speed service with the largest passenger capacity. They are also trains with zero emissions and that will run with 100% electricity from renewable sources.

Five euro banknotes

As part of the launch, and coinciding with Renfe’s 80th anniversary, a series of promotions and actions will be carried out throughout 2021. In the case of Avlo, tickets for five euros will be available for three weeks: from tomorrow until next February 14.

During the first week of the promotion -that is, until January 31- tickets can be purchased exclusively from the Avlo website and will allow travel between June 23 and December 11, 2021.

On the other hand, between February 1 and 14, tickets will be purchased both on Avlo’s website and on Renfe’s own website.

Those who purchased one of these tickets during last year’s promotion, which had to be postponed as the premiere was delayed, received a promotional code that they can exchange at no cost. Renfe will remind customers that they can do it starting tomorrow.
