Olivia Rodrigo tells us about her film on Disney+ and her desire to tour in Latin America

Olivia Rodrigo She is one of the youngest singers in the music industry who has managed to be nominated in seven categories for the 2021 Grammy Awards with her debut album. An achievement that has been recognized by critics. Her career is just beginning and, as a way to open her heart to her fans, she has decided to show moments of the creative process of her album “SOUR” through a documentary produced by Disney + “Driving Home 2 U”.

The 19-year-old is excited about the premiere, now available on streaming, and to celebrate it, she held a round table with media from the region and El Comercio was present. Olivia Rodrigo stressed the special affection that she has for her first album.

“It is the first work that I have released and many of the songs I have written based on experiences that I have lived. Writing the album has been the way to process all these emotions. It is a personal album and it has been a very important thing for me to do it. Launching it and seeing the positive responses from people was a blessing. They are part of my life and I am very grateful”, he said through the Zoom platform.

In the documentary, Olivia will showcase some of her songs with new arrangements that she hopes will excite her fans. “I loved the new arrangement of Jealousy, Jealousy, freestyle it, add this punk rock version to the song. I had a lot of fun adding this rock style to the album with my bandmates. I also liked that ‘hope ur ok’, not to spoil too much, but we wrote it on the beach. I love the beach and we have fun”he pointed.

Your destiny in music

The American artist believes that she was destined to dedicate herself to the music industry because from a very young age she loved to sing and, since then, she has felt prepared for all the challenges that a career in music implies. Even more so when she starts so young. “I have been writing songs for as long as I can remember. My parents have photos and home videos of me from when I was six years old singing songs that I wrote and that kind of thing. It has always been something that I loved to do, but I never imagined what would happen. I love what’s been going on these last few years. I’m very grateful”he stressed.

Likewise, she had the opportunity to do the school at home and do the creative processes for herself. “I think everyone works in their own way, which is exciting and I’m grateful that I get to write songs and that people want to keep hearing me sing them.”

Olivia Rodrigo highlighted that one of her favorite parts of being an artist is that she can be part of different aspects around her career such as music, music videos, movies. “There are many ways of expression that you can take advantage of. That’s one of my favorite things.”

For her, the most important thing that a singer must keep in mind when starting his career is that “You have to make music for yourself and because you love it. you can’t write songs to get them out, (to) make them popular. Writing a song (for that purpose) can be bad. I think as long as you put your heart into the songs you write, and you write them because they mean something to you, you’ll never go wrong.”

The young woman also seeks to empower women in music and has been working for this. “I feel that friendships between women are the most real relationships in the world and it was so much fun doing the songs with women that I love. I remember growing up not seeing many women in rock and this has empowered me. See women on the guitar. That’s what you’ll see in the movie and on tour and it’s very exciting.”

A tour in Latin America?

At the beginning of April, Olivia Rodrigo will begin her first tour “SOUR” that will tour the United States and some European countries. This will be a new experience for the young woman, who is extremely excited. “Seeing people take ownership of the songs is very exciting and I will be able to see that first hand on tour”.

In addition, he revealed some recommendations that his colleagues in the music industry have given him for this first tour that he will make. “I am very excited to experiment visually and musically, making my outfits. Those tour details that are so much fun to create. I think all my friends have recommended that I take good care of myself during the tour, because singing every night can become physically exhausting. Everyone has told me to take care of my health and that I have to sleep, eat and drink water. I will take into account your recommendations”, he said between laughs.

Asked about the possibility of doing a tour that includes Peru, the artist replied that it was definitely among her plans, as well as the rest of the Latin American countries. “I love you (my fans). I am very sad that I cannot go to countries that I wanted to go with this tour. Due to time and financial issues, it has not been possible. But I’m really excited to be (coming soon) to places that I really want to include on an upcoming tour.”ended.
