Oscar 2022: “West Side Story” is defeated in the Academy Best Picture category

The statuette for Best Film of the ninety-fourth edition of the Oscar Awards could not be taken “West Side Story”. the tape of steven spielberg was one of the big favorites for this category but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences decided not to give it recognition.

This film tells the classic story of rivalries and young love in New York City in 1957 where two teenagers from different ethnic backgrounds fall in love. It is the new version of the legendary musical “West Side Story”. Instead, the Oscar went to “CODA,” directed by Sian Heder.

One of the previous positive results that “West Side Story” had, which could have given it a victory option at the 2022 Oscars, was the triumph obtained at the Golden Globes last January. At that gala, he won three awards, including the distinction for the best comedy or musical film. However, this was not enough to raise the golden statuette of the Academy.

Other films nominated in this important category were Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast”, Adam McKay’s “Don’t Look Up”, Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s “Drive My Car” and Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune”. As well as “King Richard” by Reinaldo Marcus Green, “Licorice Pizza” by Paul Thomas Anderson, “Nightmare Alley” by Guillermo del Toro and “The Power of the Dog” by Jane Campion.
