Paul McCartney has a new fight. The Beatles echoed animal rights group PETA’s call to encourage big companies like Starbucks to stop charging extra when customers ask for plant-based milk. As he prepares, as part of his world tour, to pass through Seattle, the city where the headquarters of the take-away coffee giant is located, the singer wanted to send a strong message.
“I recently learned that Starbucks in the United States is applying a supplement for plant milks over cow’s milk. I have to say this surprised me as I understand that in other countries like UK and India both types of milk are charged the same price. I would like to politely ask you to consider this policy for Starbucks USA as well,” he wrote to company CEO Kevin Johnson, who is due to retire on April 4 and could leave with this final decision. ‘after the interpreter of let it be.
More greenhouse gases
According to PETA, cow’s milk generates three times more greenhouse gases than plant-based milk and requires nine times more land. It takes 628 liters of water to produce one liter of milk, while it takes 90% less to make soy or oat milk.
