“Yakuqñan, paths of water”: the new Peruvian documentary that you can watch in streaming

The experienced cinematographer Juan Durán Agurto premiered on April 22 the documentary film Peruvian “Yakuqñan, paths of water”, through the Vimeo On Demand platform, with which it seeks to raise awareness of water care.

The national production, which contains voices in Awajún, Spanish and Quechua, makes visible the problems that water is going through in our country; In addition, it invites us to reflect on the responsible care of this resource.

“Water has become an urgent resource, however, it is the first victim of indiscriminate logging practices and irresponsible mining and industry. Today we have to be aware that water is our source of life, therefore; through the wisdom of our characters; I seek to sensitize critical and responsible thinking about their care and in this way follow the example of their traditions”says Duran in a press release.

“Yakuqñan, Caminos del Agua” compiles the testimonies of women and men from different indigenous communities in Peru, who tell us stories of their daily activities related to land and water. Likewise, it has the participation of the Cusqueña oral narrator Tania Castro and the Cusqueña soprano Sonia Ccahuana.

“This work is a tribute to the workers of the land who fight every day for the right to life and who invite us to think about water, to be aware of it, respect it and take care of it”adds the director.

This film project was awarded by the Ministry of Culture, through the Directorate of Audiovisual, Phonography and New Media, in the Economic Stimulus of the “Promotion of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Activity 2019” in the Long Format Documentary Projects category.
