Netflix cancels season 2 of Fanny Herrero’s humorous and endearing series

A bad joke signed Netflix. The platform will not renew the series Funnywhose first season was released online last March, revealed The Inrocks Thursday evening. “We have made the difficult decision not to renew Funny for a second season, after almost three years of working together and a fruitful collaboration with Fanny Herrero, Les Films du Kiosque and the whole team,” explained Netflix.

The reason for this cancellation? “Our subscribers have not found their account there”. A decision which comes as the platform lost nearly 200,000 subscribers worldwide in the first quarter of 2022, “an unprecedented figure in ten years”, underlines the magazine.

“She deserved to exist on the platform”

And yet, the series by Fanny Herrero (the creator of Ten percent) on the world of stand-up, was particularly successful and endearing, and had received good feedback. “I’m obviously sad and disappointed that Netflix didn’t let the series settle down more, given the enthusiastic, affectionate reception and testimonials from the press and the public, from lots of young people we don’t know. knows, who insisted on its freshness, said the director. What remains is the pride of having done it with my team, of having enjoyed creating these characters who revealed four magnificent actors, Mariama Gueye, Jean Siuen, Younès Boucif and Elsa Guedj. »

On social networks, Internet users have not hidden their pain at seeing this creation disappear, as have certain actors, like Younès Boucif, who said goodbye to Nezir. “It’s really a shame, because I think Funny is a beautiful series, different, nuanced, and even if we did not have 60 million viewers, it deserved to exist on the platform, ”he lamented on Twitter. Hoping to find all these talents very soon in other projects.
